He can have bad days and be pretty difficult to talk to at times but he is really nice and definitely does care about his students. He makes you work a lot but he knows what he is talking about and knows how to edit himself because he is a real professional. If you put in the time and do your work you will do just fine.

Joe is one of the best professors in the Film/Video department. He will always answer any question you have, and he is so nice and accommodating. His class is really laid back and he gives you a lot of opportunities to experiment with the different equipment we have in the department. If you're a FVP Major you HAVE to take joe at least once.

Joe is great. Any questions you ask him, he answers perfectly. He helps CONSTANTLY. Like he literally gives you EVERY WAY POSSIBLE to contact him if you need help. It's impossible to NOT reach him. On top of that, he is just a good guy, good prof, and reliable. Study lectures for his tests and quizzes. They are like 70% written questions.

Joe is absolutely phenomenal. He' s obviously passionate about his subject and he's passionate about teaching it too. I was so disinterested in audio in film when I started the class, it wasn't even funny. I literally only took the class because I needed the credits. I'm now taking Audio 2 and Sound Design because I love the subject. A++ Broseph

Joe is an amazing professor. His real goal of the class is to help you love the subject as much as he does, and he will help you reach that goal however he can. He's very easy to connect with and is easy to learn from. He provides you all your notes, so no book or writing stuff down. Just listen and enjoy!

He is a great professor. So much so I compared him to Mr. Feeney from Boy Meets World. I literally call him McCargey. This is my guy to go to when it comes to audio and guidance in audio production.

I LOVE JOE. He is such an amazing professor and genuinely wants you to succeed. He will help you whenever you need it, and if you go into the class an hour before the midterm and final, he will tell you exactly what to do for the verbal portions. Such a great guy and you learn sooooo much!

Really will do anything for his students, one student started the class three weeks late and Joe helped bring them up to speed outside of class. Doesn't use blackboard or a textbook. He emailed everything needed at the beginning of the semester, including the semester schedule and final project. Half the class is working on the final project.

He's a great person and very knowledgeable on the Pro Tools program and Audio equipment, however his tests are very random pieces from sheets he passes out in class. Which makes his tests and quizzes very hard to prepare for and they're a big part of your grade.

Excellent professor! Very passionate about the subject and wants you to learn the material. Only 2 projects, one being the final. 4 quizzes and 1 exam. So if you put the work in its an easy grade. Only problem is that he doesn't use blackboard which makes it hard to know due dates. Other then that he's a great teacher!

Joe is like a walking textbook - he doesn't require you to buy a textbook because of this. He is extremely knowledgeable and can answer any question you have. He's also very helpful and willing to help you outside of class. Great guy.

Joe McCargar. What a man! He's absolutely fantastic and truly is an Audio Jedi! I had little interest in learning audio prior to this class. In fact I hated it! But after taking it with Joe I've found such a passion for it. All he wants is for you to learn. Overall, Joe seriously is one the best professors.

If you don't like Joe, you simply don't belong at Grand Valley. Great professor, great person. I've never had a more devoted professor who is always willing to give the time to make sure students understand and learn the material. Plus, the class is just fun in general.

Joe isn't just a professor, he's a friend. I looked forward to audio 1 regardless of the 3 hours. He goes way out of his way to help. He's pretty funny also. During the second half of the semester, most of the time is devoted to the final project, so class will often be 30 minutes. Joe is basically the cats pajamas. He would make a great uncle

Took him for Audio II. Great class. Very challenging. I didn't understand signal processing so I met with him at River City and he took time in the big studio to help me. He give the final project before midterm so you have plenty of time to work on it. Make sure you take advantage of that. Joe is the best!

Joe is one of the better teachers i've had at Grand Valley. He is always willing to answer question during and after class, and gives class members his cell phone number in case there are any other questions. Class is somewhat tough to begin with, but still a great class.

Joe is a great man and great professor. No one will be more helpful in Audio then Joe. Had Schmit for Audio 1, had major problem occur in final project. Schmit had no clue what to do. Joe came in (not even being our professor) and fixed the problem in 5 minutes. I learned nothing from Schmit, took Audio 2 with Joe, and I learned so much from him.

I really struggled with this class, but it had nothing to do with Joe. He is the most helpful teacher I have ever had. He came in at 8 AM on a Saturday to help my group with our final project. He's just a genuinely nice person, that will go miles out of his way to help you with anything.
