He is an incredible professor. He gives a ton of help on projects and you definitely become versed on C++ if you weren't before. Prof's advice in lectures for projects was a life-save this semester. His lectures are a little dry but his passion is contagious and his lecture slides help the content a ton. Exams very similar to homework.

Super nice professor with an extremely generous late policy. Lectures can get a bit dry, but he walks through examples for most of the content and gives pseudocode for almost everything you need to write in the class. He's got a good sense of humor and is a safe bet considering some of the other professors for the class.

Professor Xue is an extremely great professor who really cares about his students. Whenever I went to his office hours, he was always helpful and understanding of the questions I had to ask him. Work hard. Be prepared for tests. Start early on the projects. Attend lectures. The hard work really pays off in this class if you put in the work.

Get ready to work! His grading is a bit tough but clear. He teaches concepts well if you try to listen to him in lecture. I personally really liked him a lot until the end of the semester: he DOES NOT stop the work flow. Project 3 is worth twice as much as the other 2 and took me 4 days with little sleep. Every grade counts but he teaches well!

Dr. Xue cares about his students' success. He put in a lot of time outside of class to make sure his lectures give a solid foundation. His homework is very doable. Tests are difficult, but test the material taught. Projects are hard, but he will work with students to make sure you pass. CSE310 is a foundational course and Xue sets it.

Class started slow, but as things ramped up he also showed how accessible he was for students and how he genuinely wants you to become a better programmer. I think he revamped his lectures and they are clear with lots of visual aid. Definitely recommended.

I can see from past reviews, he had a pretty bad rep. But that really does not reflect on him now. You do have to put in work to pass, but his assignments are reasonable and he genuinely cares about teaching you the content.

I feel that old reviews do not reflect how Xue taught 310 this semester. It was a difficult class, but he genuinely cared that you did well and understood the content. He wants you to become a better programmer, and this is well reflected in how he lectures and answers questions. You will have to work hard, but you WILL become a better programmer.

CSE 310 is a tough class but Dr. Xue is the best professor I have had so far at ASU. He is caring and his lectures are excellent. His projects are difficult but he is helpful and accessible if you have questions. He teaches with a lot of practicality and genuinely cares that you develop as a programmer.

One of the best professors I've ever had honestly. He cares about his students and their success so much. Of course this class is gonna be hard but if you put in the work, I guarantee you that It will pay off. Should you have any questions, Dr Xue would be more than happy to help you and guide you through the process so that everything is clear.

This guys is the bets 310 prof @ ASU. He cares about his students and is incredibly smart. 310 is a hard class and requires lots of studying, but his tests are just like the homework and, although the black and white grading can be harsh, he is incredibly clear about what he expects. Funny guys that's passionate about what he teaches. Love papa xue

Not sure why he is so hated. Yes, he is a tough grader. But this is the ONE class in the computer science degree program that you should actually learn very well to pass coding interviews. He gives very good lectures. He has an accent but its easy to understand him. His explanations are very clear and he cares a lot about teaching us.

Im a terrible student. I dont show up to class and I procrastinate A LOT. I am not super smart my semesters average at C's constantly, but if you take xue you will pass. The Exams are identical to practice exams and the assignments take 8 days most but you are given 1 month. Take xue. He will scare you but it'll be okay you will pass

The subject is interesting, but he screwed up. He has highly knowledge, but can't connect while delivering the lecture. This subject is important for many students and he is not the correct professor. Vague grades in projects and most of the students didn't received any extra credit they earned. Take the class if you are fan of "Stephen Boyd".

The course SML has a lot of Mathematics. Agreed. But there needs to be some correlation with real-world problems. Machine Learning is such an important subject for graduate students and it was totally blown away by the professor. The class has no practical learning as such. For Example, "Neural Networks" was done in 2 classes. Seriously !!

Xue is a genuine professor who truly wants his students to succeed and become good programmers. If you attend lectures you will pick up on the recurring theme of Xue giving tips to the class on how to be a good programmer. Tests can weigh down your grade but if you study and do well on homework and projects you should do fine in this course.

I get the sense that Xue has made some changes in the way he teaches 310 recently, which seemed to work out pretty well. Learn the material (its important) and you will do fine. His grading can be tough but is very predictable. Test questions are almost identical to the assignments.

Go to class, study, dont procrastinate. He posts lecture slides but they wont make sense unless you've been to class. He didn't make us do proofs this semester and I believe this helped keep the average grades high. 2 projects that are manageable if you start early. Overall, I liked the class. Note sheet was allowed for tests.
